1. What is the difference between marble
and granite?
Granite and marble both are stones and they quarried from the earth. But they
are different from each other. Granite is siliceous stone and composed mainly of
silica or quartz like particles. Granite is formed deep in the earth’s mantle at
extremely high temperatures and is very hard and resistant. The Marble family:
limestone, marble, onyx, and travertine. They are calcareous stones and composed
mainly of calcium carbonate it begins as sediment animal skeletons, shells and
silt of the bottom of water. After millions of years this solidifies into stone.
2. How should I clean marble floor?
Mop marble floor frequently using clean dry dust mop. Dirt and sand damage stone
surfaces due to their abrasiveness. It is very important to keep area rugs and
mats at each entrance to minimize sand and dirt. Clean stone surfaces with water
and few drops of dishwashing detergent or marble neutral cleaner. Never use
products that contain acid or alkali.
3. What is the process of restoration of
marble?
We use special equipment for wet diamond
- Grinding (if original installation is bad, or
any deep scratches on the marble)
- Honing (to remove micro scratches, stain
marks)
- Polishing of marble to receive it’s original
luster.
4. How do you protect the walls and other
floors like carpet and hardwood when you grind, polish and clean the marble
floors?
We use clear Poly Films: Light for the walls, heavy for the floors.
5. Is there a lot of dust when you
restore marble or other stone floors?
No dust at all. Grinding, honing, polishing are wet procedures.
6. Will grout be cleaner after polishing
of the marble?
Before final polishing of marble we clean all grout with special chemicals and
brushes and grout returns to it's original color.
7. What is the “sealing” of the marble?
Sealers in the stone industry are called impregnators, because they impregnate
the interior of the stone with silicones and reject water and oil, but they not
prevent scratches or etching from acid spills on marble.
8. How often should marble be sealed?
Best result if sealer applications are done annually.
9. We have brand new limestone or
travertine floor, but since it was installed it looks blotchy, and we can’t
clean that. Is that possible to fix it?
